Boyfriend is pressuring me for sex

Dear Pastor,

I am 17 years old and my boyfriend is 19. He is trying to encourage me to have sex with him. He says that he will use a condom. But my sister is 20, and she and her boyfriend used the condom and she still got pregnant, so I am afraid. Please give me your advice.

Dear A.T.,

The condom is considered to be one of the safest methods of contraception. But it is not 100 per cent safe. I do not know whether your sister and her boyfriend used the condom in the proper way. One should not begin to engage in sex, then stop and put on the condom and continue. It should be put on before penetration. So it is likely that your sister got pregnant because she and her man did not use the condom properly.

Sometimes condoms break and the couple might not be aware of what has happened. Condoms may break because they are old. And for men with small penises, the condom may slide off during sexual intercourse.

Not every man can use the same size condom. There are some men who are well-endowed and they should look for the large sizes.

If you are determined to have sex, my suggestion is that you discuss your concerns with your gynaecologist.
