Gunman shot, loaded gun recovered in robbery attempt

A would-be robber was shot and is currently hospitalised under police guard after a botched robbery attempt in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland this morning.

A loaded firearm was also retrieved. 

Information reaching THE STAR is that investigators have launched a manhunt for a second suspect who escaped the scene.

Reports are that two armed robbers attacked a businessman while he made his way to the bank about 8:30 a.m.

Our news team gathered that the men requested cash and an alarm was raised by the businessman.

THE STAR understands that a security guard intervened and during the exchange of gunfire, one of the men was shot.

The police were summoned to the scene and the man was rushed to hospital. The businessman escaped serious injury.

The police say investigations are ongoing.
