Security guard beaten by student

A 62-year-old security guard who on Wednesday attempted to quell a fight between two female students at a learning institute in Montego Bay, was severely beaten by one of the them with a chair.
The guard had to be treated at hospital for injuries to his face and hand.

The police say the 18-year-old student, who hails from the Retrieve community in Cambridge, St James, has since been charged with unlawful wounding, and is to appear in court early next week.

A source at the institution told THE STAR some of the students at the institution are very violent, and have to be approached with caution.

"Mi deh pon the compound and witnessed everything, and mi shock fi see the teenage girl beating the elderly man who could be har father, or grandfather, with the chair," the source said. "Is a sad case over the fight between the two girl; the security guard did only a try fi part them. But him ended up nearly losing his eyes after the girl use the chair fi lick him inna him face, nearly lick him unconscious."

Reports are that shortly after 2 p.m., an altercation started between the students, allegedly over a male.

A fight ensued, and the security guard intervened. The student then turned on him, using a chair to inflict several injuries to his body.

The incident was quelled by several of the administrative staff, who called in the police.
