Pop singer inspired by reggae
In an interview with Rolling Stones last month, former member of US Pop group, One Direction, Zayn Malik revealed that he was a huge fan of reggae. Now, his apparent love affair with reggae music has led to an album said to be inspired by the genre.
Malik's upcoming album, Mind Of Mine is said to have strong dub and reggae flavours. The first single off the compilation, Pillowtalk is said to have a heavy reggae influence.
The single is projected to hit the top spots on charts all over the world, having already sold more than 23,000 copies since its release. "It's all very sparse and random. There's some R&B more inflected, and others that are like reggae-sounding," he said about the album in an interview with the UK's Daily Star. "They're all kind of different thoughts. The music reflects that as well because they're different emotions, so you feel different things through each song," he continued.
The artiste also admitted in his Rolling Stone interview to being a huge fan of the late Gregory Isaacs.
The article also said that the new music has helped Malik get over his shyness.
"I am an introvert extravert. I find it hard to express myself in normal situations so I use that in my music rather than it be a negative thing. This is just something that helps me express what's going on in my head."
