Rapper Drake has never hid his love for dancehall music or his respect for dancehall artistes. Over the past few years, the Canada-born entertainer has worked on several collaborations with some of the biggest names in the local industry including Mavado and Popcaan.

Dancehall fans will be glad to know that the rapper has once again collaborated with Popcaan, and the song is expected to be included on Drake's album that is set to be released in April.

The song, Controlla, was leaked online yesterday morning, and although it was quickly removed from SoundCloud and other popular streaming websites, many persons had already managed to listen to the track and created quite a buzz about it on social media, particularly on Twitter.

The Twitter users are giving the single 'two thumbs up', labelling the track as one with the perfect summer vibe.

"This Drake and Popcaan track ridiculous. Perfect summer vibes," one user tweeted, while another said, "This Drake and Popcaan song got me looking at flights to Jamaica."

huge attention

Drake has always been a fan of the 'Unruly Boss'. In the past, he has made several tweets quoting the lyrics to some of Popcaan's most popular songs, drawing huge attention to the artiste's social media pages and his work. He has also used several slangs Popcaan has popularised, including the 'Way Up' phrase.

Although Drake has long talked about working with Popcaan on a project, Controlla would stand as the first official collaboration between the two.

When contacted for an official comment, Popcaan's management told the STAR that the entertainer was unavailable for a comment at this time.

But in an interview with the STAR in January, Popcaan described Drake as family.

"Drake and OVO is straight up family. Drake is the one who said OVO Unruly. Drake views me as Drizzy Drake in Jamaica, and I view him as a young youth that is doing well in the game," he said. "He tweeted songs from Only Man She Want and lines from Get Gyal Easy. He also asked us to come to OVO Fest and he was listening to my mix tape there. He told me that he can relate to things that I sing."

While there is still no confirmation from Drake's team on the official release date for the new album, Views From The 6, critics are already predicting that the album will be the rapper's best work to date. Drake's last compilation, If You're Reading This It's Too Late, was nominated in the Best Rap Album category at this year's Grammy Awards.
