Gospel Spotlight: DJ Nicholas goes to school, releases album

There has been constant conversation about DJ Nicholas being featured on BET's Celebration of Gospel event with Pastor Deitrick Haddon. Considering that the programme was aired in January this year and is still being run on the American network, the gospel artiste said he is yet to classify himself as an international act.

"It's the closest I've got to American exposure," he conceded. And though he has received increased attention from the Caribbean for the performance with Pastor Haddon, he said more is required before declaring oneself truly international."

And with fatherhood, school, and his ministry keeping him occupied, DJ Nicholas is not focused on breaking out on the international scene.

FOURTH ALBUM

As he prepares to release a fourth album this summer, DJ Nicholas revealed that he has arranged his activities on the road around school.

"I skipped school for a big period. After I left Calabar, that was it," the deejay told THE WEEKEND STAR, adding that the focus was on establishing his music career.

Having completed all the pre-requisites for the programme, DJ Nicholas said his current aim is to move on to the second stage of his education.

"My long-term goal is to be a physical therapist," he told THE WEEKEND STAR, a goal that will take a number of years.

But the artiste is tactical as he does not take summer classes so that he can use that time to focus on music and ministry. Family life is also a priority, and DJ Nicholas said balancing all these elements in his life can be difficult at times.

Despite his hectic schedule, DJ Nicholas is excited about the scheduled summer release of his upcoming album.

"This album will carry two international features. Deitrick is one of them already" he said, adding that these features will make the album different.

Straying from the norm of reggae and dancehall-style music, DJ Nicholas promises that good news will be delivered through hip hop and an 'American-style' worship song. The album will even include a gospel-pop song.

"You know the EDM style now kinda like a Holy Ghost Gym kinda thing," he said.

With this collection of genres, the gospel deejay promises that this album will be more dynamic than his previous albums.

Before the announcement of his album release date, DJ Nicholas is scheduled to perform at Fun in the Son, Jamaica Gosplash 2016, and the MoBay Jerk Festival.
