Food, fun dominate PAN Regional 2
A day filled with great vibes, endless amounts of juicy pan chicken and non-stop entertainment sums up Regional 2 of PAN 2016 at Folly Oval in Portland recently.
On entering the picturesque venue, you couldn't help but notice the bold red CB branding and the aroma of jerk filled the air. Patrons lined up to get their belly full and purchase pan chicken from the 34 competitors who represented the parishes of Kingston and St Andrew, St Thomas, Portland, St Mary, St Ann, Trelawny and St Catherine.
From the gates opened, there was never a dull moment. More than 6,000 patrons turned out to get a taste of Copperwood Pork's 'barb'-jerked pork prepared on its Road Hog, which got approval from local residents. There were also treats, courtesy of National Baking Company, and patrons were introduced to the ever-popular Bad Dawg Sausages.
While parents spent time catching up with old friends, the children were entertained at the Monster Milk Kiddies Village with a number of interactive games and rides, such as a zip line.
Emcees, comedians Dufton 'Duffy' Shepherd and Pretty Boy Floyd kept patrons in stitches and racing to the stage to participate in competitions, courtesy of partners including Miracle Tomato Ketchup, Diamond Foil and Digicel.
Red Stripe beer showed off what's good, and offered patrons bucket deals, while Pepsi offered a spin-the-wheel activity to win prizes.
An entertainment package on the main stage, later in the evening, culminated with creditable performances from the likes of gospel artiste Rondell Positive and dancehall artistes Devin Di Dakta and Aidonia.
PAN chicken men and woman battled in a cook-off for a spot at the grand final on October 30 to win the coveted title of Grand Champion. Though all the pan men and women gave it their all and delivered innovative spins on this Jamaican favourite, only 15 could emerge finalists when the judging was complete.
