Darrio's fight for survival - Artiste says 'Just For Living' connects with struggles of blacks

As people of African descent use February to reflect on the journey of the black race and celebrate the achievements of blacks, dancehall artiste Darrio Johnson is using music to tell the story of the black man's struggles.

In a video which was shot to accompany his new project, Just For Living, Darrio is seen bloody and strewn across a riverbed.

"Dem beat me up and throw me in a river and mi haffi crawl mi way to civilisation," Darrio said, explaining the video's plot.

In the 30-second clip, Darrio is seen in a harrowed state, with cuts, bruises and tattered clothing, appearing to struggle through an upward climb.

"The reason behind the whole Black History Month premiere is because the concept of the whole video is me basically fighting for survival. I be walking through some fields and rivers and things like that, just like our fore parents," he told THE STAR.
