Gospel Spotlight : Suzie Q returns to TV with Gospel Train

Once upon a time, music aficionados looked forward to the airing of local programmes Video Alley and Reggae Top Ten, and now, long-time television personality Paula 'Suzie Q' Bonner, the face of and brains behind those two programmes, has returned to the familiar post of hostess of another music-themed programme.

'Suzie Q Gospel Train' is a half-hour programme that premiered on April 9 on CINTV Ch 73 and Fios Ch 26, aired in the New York Tri-state Area that will have guests such as gospel artistes, bishops, or anyone in gospel with an awesome testimony.

Bonner said that the show's guest list also extends to those who just have an awesome testimony to share. "I just want to spread the message, spread the gospel. That is my main purpose and mission," Bonner told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Along with spreading the gospel, Bonner wants more local gospel artistes to invest in making music videos. "There are not a lot of music videos, but there are tons of gospel artistes in Jamaica. I want to encourage them to do their music," she said.

Currently, the hostess and producer is in negotiations to air Suzie Q Gospel Train in some African countries, the United Kingdom and Florida.

But Bonner's attentions are not only focused on attracting international consumers, as on April 28, the television producer will also host a five-week gospel party series in Portmore, starting with a live show. The series will take place at Hive (formerly Famous Nightclub) in Portmore and will feature performances by Carlene Davis, Lt Stitchie, Katalys Crew, and La Twain.

And on May 18, Bonner will host Christian Connect, where Christians looking for love in fellowship can declare their status by colour-coding their clothes.

"Red for married people, green for singles, and yellow for those who are in relationships," she explained. "I'm trying to make a difference instead of being a regular churchgoer," she said.
