Dancehall artiste Qnique, has been working with College Boiz Production with hopes of making her brand into a household name.

College Boiz is known for their work with QQ and Spice, making hits like Skip To My Lou for QQ and Slimmy vs Fluffy for Spice.

The label has already released a single titled 'Lockdown' for Qnique and she believes the record has hit potential.

"'Lockdown' is an upbeat song that makes you want to dance as you hear the beat drop. It's real dancehall with an authentic sound and trust me, with the right promotion, I am convinced that it will become a hit. We have already raised eyebrows in England and some places in the Caribbean," Qnique told THE STAR.

The deejay says she is often compared to Lady Saw due to her sometimes raunchy lyrics and hardcore delivery. However she maintains that she is focused on making her own legacy.

"I love Lady Saw and I find it pleasing when people compare me to her because that to me means that I have been doing the right thing vocally and getting my voice in the right place," she said. "As it relates to my content I do all kinds of music, however a dancehall this and so we have to get to the point and let people feel the impact of the words when we put pen to paper."

Qnique said some people will say her material is slack while others will love it because music is subjective.

"Right now I am trying to cut a lane for myself and to make good music so that I can have a career than spans even longer than my life," she said.

'Lockdown' has been in regular rotation in the dancehall courtesy of selectors DJ Banka and Alex Frass.
