Reggae band Morgan Heritage has ventured into the medical marijuana industry by investing in a marijuana delivery service company.

Morgan Heritage announced that it has partnered with United States-based Proper Rx, a company which delivers medical marijuana products to clients. The medical marijuana providers also caters to the groups of patients who do not have cars, are too ill to leave their homes, or are handicapped.

“We have signed on as a shareholder in an effort to take an amazing local business from Oakland, CA, across the state and subsequently across the country in states where medical Marijuana is legal,” said Memmalatel 'Mojo' Morgan of the reggae band.

Mojo said that after spending two weeks with Proper Rx's owner Elliott Marshall and his staff last year, he realised that the services they were offering "far exceeded the recreational use of marijuana".

"They were treating patients with a wide array of ailments, ranging from cancer to epilepsy to chronic pain and migraines," Mojo said.

Morgan Heritage said the decision to enter the marijuana market was influenced by the 2011 arrest of their father, reggae artist Denroy Morgan.

Morgan was charged with possession of 25 pounds of marijuana in the Bronx, New York, walked away from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in lower Manhattan virtually unscathed with only 90 days' probation and a court filing fee of US$25.

His attorney had successfully argued that Morgan had no intention to distribute the marijuana for profit but he bought it for spiritual use. Prosecutor Michael Ferrara was also in agreement with the deal.
