Wickie Wackie Music Festival returns

Along the shores of Bull Bay, St. Andrew, sits the homely cottage and seaside stage of Wickie Wackie beach.

This venue should be blazing come Saturday, December 9, when reggae band Raging Fyah and Elite Organics return with the Wickie Wackie Music Festival.

The festival, which has been going on for seven years, was not held last year. However, a representative of the festival's production management team, Palmer House Entertainment, said that the show is definitely back on this year.

"The hosts, Raging Fyah, was also on tour last year. That's why it was put off. They made sure to put off all tours to make this happen because they believe in the showcase of young Jamaican talent," Palmer House said.

A Grammy-nominated reggae band, Raging Fyah is among those responsible for what many people refer to as the Reggae Revival.

"Raging Fyah looks out for young talent and gives them the platform there are artistes like Chronixx, Wickie Wackie was his first platform ever even the likes of Jesse Royal, Jah 9 ... Most of them were upcoming and they were part of that journey at Wickie Wackie," Palmer House told The STAR.

Wickie Wackie Music Festival, which started as a monthly show called Wickie Wackie Live, has developed into a fully formed event.

"Hardly anyone in Jamaica was giving upcoming roots reggae artiste a platform with a few thousand people," Palmer House said.

This year's festival will feature performances by Raging Fyah, along with Jah9 and the Dub Treatment, Notis Heavyweight Rockaz, EarthKry, Chevaughn, Koffee and 6 points. The sound system controls will be in the hands of Dub Club founder, Gabre Selassie and Dubwise founder, Yaadcore.
