Beenie to 'Dweet Again' with Sizzle
In one of his many popular songs, 'Dweet Again', Beenie Man confidently states many of his achievements and reassures that what he has done before he has do once more.
That seems to include putting on a massive stage show, as on August 11, 2018, current STAR of the Month Beenie Man plans to reintroduce his once annual marathon concert, Summer Sizzle. The event was regularly held at the Jamalco Sports Club in Halse Hall, Clarendon. The Dancehall Doctor revealed that his renewed Sizzle intentions to The STAR last week, among a number of plans he has for the rest of the year.
Summer Sizzle offered an impressive and varied line-up of local and international performers, with Akon and Mya among the overseas performers and even professional wrestler Hulk Hogan putting in an appearance. In addition to the expected slew of dancehall performers, Summer Sizzle also enjoyed the presence of Jimmy Cliff. Additionally, the Sizzle's star-studded line-up included Shaggy, American rapper Funkmaster Flex, and Bunji Garlin.
SLIGHT NAME CHANGE
It is not the first time that Beenie Man has decided to put Sizzle back on the calendar. In 2007, it was put on pause, and, after undergoing a slight name change, the event was relaunched in 2009 as Beenie Man's Sizzle. The event was planned in celebration of the Yagga Yo singer's three decades in the music business. This time around, the deejay intends to restart the event as he looks towards clearing another decade in music.
The Sizzle comes back at a time when there are fewer large-scale summer events than before. Champions in Action is one of those which has been discontinued. During the summer there is an absence of artiste-owned stage shows, particularly of the dancehall persuasion, although Reggae Sumfest has maintained a steady presence on the summer itinerary. However, the summer season is chock-full of marathon parties and sound system events.
