JC robotics team adopts Sasco's 'Winning Right Now'
Agent Sasco's 'Winning Right Now' has somewhat been an anthem for the Jamaica College robotics team that recently won the Inspire Award at the qualifiers of the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) at the Dalton School in New York, USA.
Jason Brown, faculty adviser, teacher, and first form year supervisor, said that as part of the competition, each team had to set up a booth and showcase the culture of their home country. He said that the boys decided to play music in their efforts to give others a taste of Jamaica.
"We did not plan to play that song specifically, because we have a playlist. We were flinging our shoulders, doing the Lebeh Lebeh and the Flairy, playing Chronixx, and so on," he said. "When that song (Winning Right Now) came on, we realised that everybody was feeling it and it really made an impact. The song is one that naturally motivates you, and with the boys determined to win, it was just perfect.
"Moving on in the competition, that's the song that we're going with. It will be our motivation."
The team will next compete from March 16-18 in Pennsylvania, and with their sights set on winning, they are excited about the next round of competition.
"We have created history for JC. we won before in 2013, but we have never won first place in the qualifiers and the regionals in the same season. This is our first year doing that," Brown said.
Having found out about the team vibing to his song, Agent Sasco congratulated the JC team on his Instagram page. The deejay mentioned the team's accomplishments in the competition thus far and said that he was honoured to have his song as a soundtrack to their impressive performance representing Jamaica.
