Shortwood Teachers' College has high hopes for this year's renewal of its Evening of Excellence, being staged this Saturday on the lawns of the college's Cherry Gardens campus.

Headlining the fourth anniversary edition of the school's fundraiser is legendary reggae balladeer Freddie McGregor, who will be joined in the line-up by Etana.

Vice-principal of administrative affairs Dr Claudette Barrett-March says the college seeks to raise funds to continue the upgrading of the dormitory facilities for students.

"We are continually seeking to improve the welfare of our students and to provide the best possible accommodations on campus, and we expect this show to make an important contribution to that effort," she said.

The institution will mark 123 years of existence in September.

The Ashe Ensemble will also join McGregor and Etana. The award-winning dance company has chosen to join the line-up as part of their 25 'give back' events in commemoration of their 25th anniversary.

Conroy Wilson, executive director of Ashe, said the group had many requests but chose this event because education is very close to their hearts.

"We are a company of excellence, and this is what the evening is about. We also admire the college's push to ensure comfortable accommodations for their residents," said Wilson.

The event will be under the patronage of Lady Allen, wife of Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
