STAR of the Month Govana says he is against the idea of fourth form Calabar students not being allowed to progress to fifth form because they did not attain averages of 60 per cent or more.

The Gyal Clown singer joined the debate, which has been raging since the start of the new school year.

Govana told THE STAR that he does not believe schools should do that to students and instead offered suggestions.

He said: "Mi really and truly nuh feel it should be like that, honestly. An average comprise all the subjects and subject areas, suh if a man is doing good in technical drawing or metal work or woodwork or any one a dem thing deh and him a fail maths, literature, history and social studies, then I guess what you should try to do is make him focus more in these areas, the areas that he is good at."

According to Govana, it's lucrative to excel in a trade.

He said: "Really and truly the engineers and all of these persons are getting paid more than these persons with 10 and 11 subjects. It's really and truly a fact, the person with the skills and these things nowadays are making more money than the people who go to college for four or five years."

Govana believes that the job market for skilled workers is never-ending.

"There are definitely jobs out there for them and if you see one putting a lot of interest in one area, try help him focus and enhance whatever he is good at," he told THE STAR.

A past student of St George's College, the One and Move deejay said he speaks from experience when advocating for low-average students.

Govana said: "Me never great inna lot of subject areas a Georges, but me did love history, love social studies, love literature, and dem subject deh. Mi nuh believe dem should do that."
