'Single Mother' had to be a hit - Esco
Artiste-turned-producer Esco says he knew that Pamputtae's Single Mother track was hit-bound from the moment it was recorded.
Esco, who worked on the track, told THE STAR that with a topic as relatable as the struggles single mothers go through, there was no way the song wouldn't have resonated with people.
"From the moment I heard the beat, I knew the song would be special. I grew up with a single mother, and I have been wanting to represent for the single women, but I never felt like my artistry captured the demographic the right way. With Pam, I knew it would work," he said. "When we were putting together the lyrics, you could tell that it just connected. Everybody in the studio, even if they never had a single mother, felt it, and if we connected, then we knew it would connect with others."
He said the song struck chords with people because they see Pamputtae going through the struggles of being a single mother.
"This is her reality, she is living this life. Pam is a girl, yuh see her a go through her thing, and she a represent fi her yute dem, and she still find studio time and dem thing deh, and me know it rough pan her," he said. "Sometime she inna di middle a work and she affi cut because she have her yutes fi pick up or she affi go cook or supmn. Sometime it hurt me to see a talented artiste affi cut her thing short when she's the breadwinner and she nuh have nobody a support her, but she real, and she juggle all the things she has to effortlessly more while, just like many other women out there. This song is really a tribute to them."
The producer said he is expecting the momentum surrounding the song to continue growing as the message needed to get out there.
"We see many women going the road of motherhood alone, and sometimes we take for granted the work that they put in. This song shows off what's special about these women and what's great about their story."
