Juju Blood soars with 'Winner'

Juju Blood's latest release, 'Winner', seems to be living up to its title. The song, released recently by JR Productions and US-based label UMMG, has been enjoying steady rotation in and outside traditional dancehall spaces.

"DJ Norie from Power 105 tek it up and start play it. Right now, I'm also getting good feedback from everybody else in the streets, in the local dances and also on the radio," he told THE STAR. "The dancers dem love it too and a find dance move for the song. It's just a good vibe so far."

Winner is the lead single from Juju Blood's upcoming dancehall EP, which is scheduled to be released in January. The project will host six singles and follows the release of his 2015 14-track album D'Yung Veteran.

"I don't have a name for the EP yet, but I hope it goes far internationally," he said. "I want this project to reach a lot of people's heart. I want them to feel the struggle and feel my music and really understand Juju Blood. My last album was straight roots-rock reggae, so more time yuh haffi change up the vibes and see what the people dem a feel. It's a different vibe and whole new concept right now."

The EP will also feature the single Not Enough, a collaborative production by Chris G and JR Productions.

The singjay, born Junior Reid, has been surrounded by music all his life, being one of the sons of veteran reggae singer Junior Reid. He kicked off his professional music career in 2008 and has released songs like Come My Way, Weh Mi Come From and International Love. Even though he comes from a rich musical background, Juju Blood said that his journey in the industry has not been smooth sailing.

"I'm just putting in my work and letting people know I'm here. It's always difficult, but I will always put in the work because nothing happens before the time."
