V’Dezdra upbeat about ‘Better Way’
Up-and-coming female recording artiste V’Dezdra is upbeat about her two latest singles, Better Way and I Don’t Want You.
The songs, which debuted earlier this year, have been gaining traction in some local circles. The music videos for both songs debuted in March and January, respectively. The songs were produced by Musiqukrecords, the label that she has signed with.
“Better Way is a conscious ‘chune’ about self-belief, while I Don’t Want You sings about a girl who finally decides to take a stand in her relationship,” said V’Dezdra, whose given name is Doneida Simpson.
The multitalented music entertainer, who hails from Trelawny, told WESTERN STAR that the two songs will be featured on her debut album that is currently in the works.
V’Dezdra noted that she has aspirations of collaborating with other local names, such as Romain Virgo and the iconic Beres Hammond.
“My music is real and from the heart. I sing about what I’ve experienced and the things that I see happening around me. My hope is that people will enjoy my music, as well as learn something from it,” she said.
V’Dezdra was 12 years old when it became evident that she had great promise as a songstress. However, it was not until she joined the Montego Bay Community College Choir that she began to realise her full vocal potential, resulting in her copping multiple Jamaica Cultural Development Commission music awards.
The artiste would continue honing her talent at church, work, and social events. In 2008, V’Dezdra discovered she had some writing skills as well, and began penning songs and recording them in the studio.
