Up-and-coming reggae artiste Jah Rooti believes every artiste should have a 'weed song'. The artiste, who recently released a track called 'Free Up Marijuana', says that apart from Jamaica's sun, sea and sand, the island is also recognised for having some of the best 'herb' in the world.

"Every Jamaican artiste needs a ganja song because aside from pretty beach we are known for the good authentic herbs, no additives just pure greens from the Earth. On stage you will sing a million song that people don't know and don't get a good response, but once you say weed, you will see a different energy," he said.

Free Up Marijuana was produced by United States-based record label Rebel Sound Records. And according to the artiste, the song is already garnering attention in the US market, especially in the Tri-state Area.

"The response has been tremendous so far. It's not like one time when reggae music can't buss if you based overseas. We are aware of the power of social media in this age, and we have been using it to push the song. Because of social media, the fans in the street are in love with the concept of the song. They say it is catchy and the lyrics are well crafted," said Jah Rooti.

The entertainer added that the time to engage in discussions surrounding marijuana is now, as many countries have been relaxing laws surrounding the use of the substance. He also said that with the Jamaican herb being amongst the best in the world, the country should be leading the charge on establishing a global marijuana industry.

"We see the Marleys and some other reggae bands have ganja business overseas, and that's because the system is not set up here for them to invest in Jamaica, and that makes no sense," he said.

"It affects me personally when I see this beneficial product that could change our economical situation and the people with the power just keep on ignoring it. I have to stand for my people and say enough is enough. Marijuana is the new bauxite."
