Producer Damage achieves rare streaming success

Record producer Damage is achieving streaming success as his single, 'Blessed', by Tommy Lee Sparta has racked up more than 20 million views across the different streaming platforms.

The accomplishment puts the producer among the likes of Sean Paul, Charly Black and Koffee, all of whom have had massive success in streaming recently.

In an interview with THE STAR, Damage described the song's success as a blessing.

"This is one of my biggest achievements to date in my musical career. This song has impacted so many souls and that impact is what's showing through the streaming numbers. I've seen instances where even the dumb is trying to sing this song and that, too, is a blessing. Having been inspired by God himself on this record, I'm happy with the success," he said.

Speaking of success, the producer credits the accomplishment to his commitment in promoting the record. Still, he believes it could have had an even bigger impact had the song been backed by a mainstream company. He says most of the groundwork was done by him and his small team.

Kill a project

"The exposure it got was only natural because of the fans and the effort we placed into promoting. I didn't just use a project to kill a project, I gave it time to grow and the timing was perfect. It could have become an even bigger song if it was pushed into mainstream by a company," he said. "But we can't complain, and we are grateful for all that's happening for the song right now."

Streaming services like Spotify, Tidal and Hulu are currently used as measuring sticks for the certification of records as it relates to platinum, gold and diamond status.

Blessings has not got close to those numbers yet, but Damage told THE STAR that the song's success tells him that if he keeps producing good music, he will get there one day.

He has released a new compilation called the Miami Heights rhythm. The project will feature Teejay, with his YouTube trending single Baller, as well as Demarco, Jahvillani, Prohgress, I-Octane and African dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.

New dancehall acts Kxng, Kashmar and Josh are also included, and they featured after winning their spots via a social media competition.

"There is always a huge request in my DMs (direct messages) from young talent asking to work with me and so I hosted the competition, and the top three winners were featured with a single each," said Damage.
