Soultry Dubs drops new album
American reggae artiste Soultry Dubs is a force to be reckoned with following the release of her brand new album, Soultry Sound.
The 13-track project was released on November 11 and contains features from an all-female set, including Nattali Rize, Lion Child, Mpress Kandace, Sistren Kim and Ashley Irae.
"It came to me that I wanted to release a female-driven collection of songs in late 2017," said Soultry. "I love the different styles these ladies bring to the table, and I thought it would be beautiful to feature them all on one body of work, accompanied with my musical style."
Co-produced by Josh Cardinali of Stoney Eye Studios, the album contains tracks styled in roots reggae and dub, complemented soulfully by the sounds of heavy bass, drums and minor chords.
"All my songs start with my musical partner, Josh Cardinali. The songs just naturally progress, and the ones that speak the most to me are the ones that we will add further production to," she said.
Touching on topics such as unity and empowerment for all, this particular project is very significant to the singer.
"This album symbolises that sisterhood is powerful, that when we come together, beautiful things can happen. Women are starting to unify and understand how important it is for us to support each other and uplift each other. ," she said.
Hailing from Long Beach, California, Soultry Dubs has been active in the music scene since 2007. Her previous releases include an album with the band The Divine Crime, for which she was the keyboardist, as well as work with Ashley Irae, Mpress Kandace and two songs on the Krooked Treez album, Born Calizeans.
Although residing in the US, she grew up in tune with the trends in reggae music.
"Reggae was played heavy throughout my childhood with bands such as Steel Pulse, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Yellowman, and Pato Banton, to name a few. I also listened to a lot of hip hop/rap, classic rock, some hardcore rock later in life, and a lot of smooth music, like Sade. I really love every genre of music, but roots music stole my heart," she said.
