Although indicating that she's done a lot to steer clear of arguments and disagreements throughout the year, it seems the lady of dancehall may be ending 2019 exactly how she started it - in controversy.

Following a review of D'Angel's performance at the recent Unruly Fest, journalist Dionne Jackson Miller found herself the subject of a verbal assault, courtesy of a nasty tweet sent from one of D'Angel's social media accounts.

"B**ch, I gave an epic performance where they beg me to come back on stage. B**tch, keep my name out of your stinking mouth. People like you bring down other women instead of giving them their glory. Go review your video sh*t," a part of the tweet read.

But, after a week of silence, the entertainer has now distanced herself from said tweet, indicating that it was an unauthorised post made by her social media personnel.

In a statement released on social media on Saturday, D'Angel said she was appalled by the thoughts expressed in the tweet.

She indicated that although Jackson Miller's review of her performance was erroneous, the tweet did not coming from her.

She also explained that had it not been for the holiday period, she would have come forward to clear the air sooner.

Permanent damage

In an interview with THE STAR, D'Angel said she understands that the tweet could have caused permanent damage to her brand and revealed that the matter is being handled internally to ensure a repeat situation is avoided in the future.

"I want to take this time to apologise to anyone who may have been affected by the comment. Having recognised the importance of social media responsibility, we are handling the situation and want to ensure it doesn't happen again," she expressed.

With that said, the Stronger singer says she's looking forward to putting the drama of 2019 behind her as she heads into the new decade.

"My focus right now is on my career and my brand, and keeping a positive outlook on life. Dancehall is controversy-based and it's hard to avoid that, but the latter is not a part of my vision for 2020; so I'm going to try my best to stay far from it in the new year," she said. "As the lady of dancehall, it has been a tremendously trying but successful 2019, but I give thanks for my blessings and growing through my lessons. I put my trust in God and when he is in the mix, everything fix, 2020 vision is bigger and better."
