Gangoolie releases Coronavirus song
Dancehall artiste Gangoolie has released a song that he hopes will be picked up by the Ministry of Health to use in its public awareness campaign on the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
"This virus here is a very serious thing and me did feel the need to take it upon myself to educate the people," said Gangoolie of the track titled Coronavirus, that was released on YouTube on Wednesday.
Jamaica has joined the list of some 115 countries that have reported cases of the novel coronavirus. The COVID-19, which has infected 120,000 people worldwide, and killed more than 4,000, was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on Wednesday.
Gangoolie, mindful of the spread of the disease, said he is doing his part to help spread awareness about the virus.
"Me want everybody inna Jamaica fi take a listen to the song, know weh yuh need fi do 'bout this virus yah, because it very serious and me wouldn't like fi hear people a dead from this thing yah," he said.
The entertainer, who is known for penning songs about topical issues, says he is aware that sometimes his material comes off as comical but, this time, he's hoping his material will be taken seriously.
"Yuh have time fi joke and time fi serious, and the song a show dem how fi get demself together. The Ministry of Health can link me, because dah song yah very necessary. We can partner to use the song in commercials and dem thing deh. It is the perfect song to campaign with right now, and so me want all disc jockeys to play it so it can reach the right ears," Gangoolie said.
