Dancer-turned-artiste Pretty Pretty has addressed social media critics and the conversations they have stirred regarding her career and personal life with a new track.

The entertainer has been involved in several social media scandals, including one with her fiance, IWaata. It was revealed that the Cut Off Jeans deejay cheated on her and fathered a child. Pretty Pretty subsequently went 'ghost' on Instagram for weeks. However, she resurfaced on the weekend, dropping her latest single, Social Media.

She admitted to THE STAR that the Internet activities did become overwhelming. She explained that she is usually one to lash out quickly when anyone seeks to drag her down on social media, but said that this time, things were different.

My first choice

"I was fed up with all the things people were saying but I decided to answer this way because of how bad I felt within myself," she said. "I knew that if I had retaliated instantly, I would have regretted a lot of things so my first choice was to stay calm." She said silence was a part of her process and that time to herself allowed her the clear her head she needed to put her emotions into song.

Social Media, which was released last Friday, has already racked up more than 100,000 views on YouTube. Listeners have applauded Pretty Pretty for how she handled herself in what they described as a 'hard situation'. Some even admitted to getting emotional after listening to the track, lamenting that the world has indeed found pleasure in bringing people down.

Pretty Pretty told THE STAR that she expected people to respond to the track this way. She said it came from a very real place as indicated in her speech at the end of the track. In that speech, Pretty Pretty admitted to being a troublesome teenager, but said she made a decision long ago to not let her actions determine who she is not. She said her real personality started shining through after that. She also said that she is a jovial, drama-free person who does not fancy controversy and she will never let social media turn her back into the 'monster' she has tried so hard to run away from.

"I'm going straight to the top because I am gonna be the whole package. I don't think people are ready. I am just going to continue to be myself, put in the work and let it do the talking from now on," she said.
