Fantan apologises, but not to Muta
Following a recent videotaped outburst in which he launched a broadside against dub poet and broadcaster Mutabaruka, Rastafarian entertainer Fantan Mojah has offered at least one apology.
"I talk some things about Jr Gong mother that I really shouldn't talk, so mi apologise. Mi fix up the talk. But is Muta me hear say it one day on his programme. Muta don't even know seh we a him fans and listen to the programme regular, and when we hear the loose talk the day, we a wonder what really did a gwaan," Fantan Mojah told THE WEEKEND STAR.
The artiste has been responding to criticisms about the video for his single Fire King, which has females in G-strings dancing provocatively and catering to his every need. He said Mutabaruka especially called him out on his radio programme. Fantan Mojah lashed out about the criticism in the now infamous video, alleging that Mutabaruka had a relationship with a well-known former lover of Bob Marley.
"So, me have a video showing nice girls in swimwear, what is the problem with that? None of dem nuh underage and me never use dem mouth as nuh ashtray. So why Muta think seh him shoulda trouble me 'bout it?" Fantan Mojah told THE WEEKEND STAR.
Mutabaruka, however, said he did not call Fantan Mojah's name at any point during his radio show.
"A man show me the video and me seh 'wow is a Bobo a do that'. I see a Bobo pon this ting yah and I neva know seh a here so it reach, because mi have Bobo highly respected inna certain levels. And mi look good and realise seh is a artiste who me know, but I never call a artiste name. Some people start fi call me and seh 'a who' and me seh mi nah tell yuh a who," he said.
Mutabaruka said he subsequently received a video of Fantan Mojah making "some really defamatory arguments", including calling him out for his love of white women. In a radio interview Mutabaruka challenged Fantan Mojah to provide the evidence, as he would have to speak to his attorney or apologise.
"Me want Fantan Mojah in all of him travels fi tell me which white woman him ever hear seh me deh with."
"Where him get this argument from? And when me call that woman name as it relates to Bob Marley," the decorated poet quizzed.
But Fantan Mojah believes he was targeted first by Mutabaruka, a man he says he respects.
"And what make it worse is that is my 14-year-old daughter dem come to me and ask 'Daddy, what yuh do Muta?' Better Muta did call me for an interview and bash me smartly, but Muta yuh a nuh bigger Rasta than me," the artiste said.
