proclaims a message of hope

On a mountain in Galilee, Jesus called on his followers to make disciples of and to baptise all nations in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Known as the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20), many Christians have answered the call with three words, "I will go". That is also the title of gospel singer, teacher and music minister George Gordon's newly-relaunched 11-track album.

He is hoping that this album will now have the desired impact on all those who he wants to reach with his message of hope.

"I have approximately 5,000 friends on Facebook. However, a lot of them have been asking where to find the album. Since it was not on a digital platform, I re-released it on January 31 and it is now on Spotify and the other platforms," Gordon told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Gordon is a Jamaica Cultural Development Commission veteran, having won the gospel song title in 1999 with the memorable song Great Peace, and having written several songs for finalists. He is now intently focused on his gospel ministry, G-Go Music.

"I did gospel songs for other people. I have written songs for Jodian Pantry and she was in the top three in the gospel festival, and for Racquel and Ryan Daley. They, too, were in the top three. In 2002, I wrote a song for Shane Wright that won the competition," he said. Gordon said that he came up with G-Go Music Ministry because it has been touching lives.

"I have gone to programmes in the States and one person said she was really depressed and it was the song Great Peace that helped her recover. Another told me that she and her mom got baptised because of the song. I decided to do the ministry because I realise that it is the gift that God has given me," he explained.

NEGATIVELY AND POSITIVELY

Although he hasn't been reeling from the effects of the pandemic, Gordon said that it has affected him both negatively and positively.

"I had some concerts to do in different countries, concerts that would pay me over US$1,000 each. When COVID came, all of that fell through and it affected my finances. I was planning for it, because when you are doing an album, one good song costs more than a US$1,000," he said. "On the other hand, however, this COVID has allowed me to go to so many places all over the world still. I could do many programmes at the same time. All I needed to do was record and send them to whoever, wherever and that was effective."

He also has another new release, a single titled I Can't Breathe, which is a social commentary about prejudice and its effects. Gordon has shared the stage with big-name gospel acts like Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin and Sinach.
