It is the norm to hear dancehall artistes speak glowingly of their mothers, but for up-and-coming entertainer Inklyne, it's his father who is his hero and he is not shy to proclaim it to the world.

His single, Beloved Daddy, is a tribute to his father who passed away earlier this year and he is focusing on pushing it to the limit.

"There is nothing that was too good for my father to give us. He was always there when I was growing up and he made sure that I was not in need of anything, and it's not like he was rich in terms of money. He was rich with love," Inklyne, whose given name is Joel Davis, told THE STAR.

He shared that writing the tribute song was an outlet for his grief, while expressing his love and appreciation for his father and reminding the world that there are still good men out there who are excellent role models for their children.

"Artiste always a do 'mama' songs, and dem nice, but we need 'daddy' songs too. Just like mi seh in the song ' A 14 a we and yuh never ill treat none, a your father ways mek me neva pick up nuh gun.' So Daddy respect large," said the 24-year-old who hails from the Kingston 16 area.

A past student of Charlie Smith and Vauxhall high schools, it was in 2015 that Inklyne, who was still a student, started recording his own music on a laptop. He used to upload them to SoundCloud for his fans to listen. Social media savvy, he has more than 30,000 followers on Instagram. He has put out a couple of music videos and his songs are available for download on all music-sharing platforms. He has already set up his own Inklyne Music Group to oversee the business side of his "empire".

His real passion is to do music full-time, but for now he is supplementing his income with a nine-to-five.

"In 2018 I really started to tek di music ting serious and I linked with a producer from Trench Town ... Binghi ... and me and him doing some work. Him produce six songs for me already and we sending them out to the world. I see where my fan base is growing. People like how ah put my lyrics together and my flow and my determination. I know that I am going to mek it big in the music business," Inklyne asserted.

He is prepared for the challenges which he knows are part of the journey, but his motto is 'where there's life there's hope'.
