Up-and-coming artiste, Maydday DC (Drk Child) is into slogans and one of his creations is "every move is a movie" and he is living it.

When he initially popped onto the scene, for example, he chose a moniker that was questionable to say the least, Dontay CRIME. He quickly explained that "the crime was just an acronym for Creating Rhymes Intelligently Musically Experienced". However, he had to let go of that because of the guidelines from the watchdog body and his mother.

"The Broadcasting Commission seh we can't have certain name and my mother didn't like the crime part. But how yuh have names like Bounty Killer and Assassin [now Agent Sasco]? Anyway that's the past and I tek down the songs I did under that name and change dem to my new name. Talent and creativity is what it is all about," Maydday DC told THE STAR.

Declaring that musically he is not in a box, the Pembroke Hall High School graduate, who has been in the business since 2010, shared that he is also an engineer and has mixed songs for artistes such as I-Octane, Ginjah and Squash.

"I've been around top producers and dem turn mi inna engineer and dem turn mi inna man who build riddim, so I begin to think that I was no good as an artiste. But I am always releasing tunes because I believe in me," he said,

That faith has paid off, as he recently signed a deal with Street People Entertainment and is anticipating a bright future. He is already booked for Sting and is counting down the days until December 26.

"This is a big step for me. All along me a try do my thing in the industry and see now me a elevate. It all happened when Nuffy posted me in a video and the people dem seh 'no man, him fi deh pon Sting'. Is just for me to mek di most of this opportunity," he stated.

Among his recent songs are: U I Love, which he describes as "a sidechick song for the ladies"; Terrorist, a gangster tune; and Starbwoy, which is "a party vibes for di man dem who popping champagne".

Maydday DC's flow has been compared to that of Mavado. He admitted that they have the same vocal range.

"But is the same way when Kartel dem jump out people seh dem sound like other more established artiste. Some a we look alike and some a we sound alike," he said.
