In December 2022, singer-songwriter, producer and instrumentalist, Kaylan Arnold, visited Jamaica for what she told fans was "a secret project".

It wasn't her first visit to the island, but one of the things that stands out was "the best fried fish [she] had ever eaten in [her] life" at Hellshire Beach.

She agrees that the chemistry between reggae music and the food in Jamaica is undeniable. And, that, by the way, is the title of her newest release, a collab with Jah Cure, which is also the title of his upcoming album.

"It still feels surreal," Kaylan told THE WEEKEND STAR, as she related how the collab came into being.

In January of 2021 a song was stuck in her head and she did what she does best. She got a microphone, belted out the lyrics of Longing For and posted the video to her Instagram. Her followers loved it and Kaylan tagged the original singer.

Jah Cure listened to it and seemed to feel what everyone else was feeling.

"I discovered that she is very talented. So, I think it's time for her now to get that opportunity that she deserves," Jah Cure told The Gleaner in a recent interview.

"He sent me back a message on IG, asked me about myself, gassed me up a little bit ... and the rest is history," Kaylan said.

Kaylan, who was raised in South Florida, spoke excitedly about Undeniable and how she had to keep it a secret until VP Records was ready to release information about the album. She also vividly recalled her recent trip to Jamaica where she shot the music video and worked with a videographer whose work she has long admired.

No newbie to the music business, Kaylan, whose father is Belizean and whose mother is Haitian, has been singing since she was four and signed her first record deal at 17.

"I do jazz, reggae, R&B, hip hop and soul. I'm just waiting on my Dolly Parton feature," Kaylan said with a laugh, but she couldn't have been more serious.

"I'm staying ready so that I don't have to get ready," added Kaylan who has shared stage with Jhene Aiko, Morgan Heritage, Chronixx, Tyga, and others.

She is proud of her 2022 achievements which saw her nearly doubling her Spotify streams which increased from 506.8 thousand in 2021, to a cool million.

Kaylan's debut single, The Crown, reached #60 on the Top 200 Reggae iTunes chart, and her debut album Hydrate was in the top 100 on iTunes global Hip-Hop charts. Her newest EP, Resurface, was released on November 11.
