‘Leave Bounty and Vegas war alone’, urges Lady Ann

Looking at the feud between Bounty Killer and Mr Vegas, veteran female deejay Lady Ann is advising everybody to "leave it alone".

So serious is she about the need for persons not to interfere that she has voiced a song with deejay Tilly Beng titled Artiste a War, in which they declare that " artiste a war we nah tek nuh side ... yuh mad... a dat we avoid".

"This is a personal thing ... it a gwaan long time. Bounty don't need no help. It's fun and mi like it. The only time mi nah go like it is if it get physical. I call it David versus Goliath and I want to see it all the way to Sting. Mi don't have anything against Bounty, but a long time now him a bully Vegas, Lexxus [Mr Lexx] and Merciless," said Lady Ann, who pointed out that both she and Vegas are surnamed Smith.

Barbara Smith, Lady Ann's given name, began in sound systems in the late '70s. In 1978 she recorded his first songs, Plan Your Family featuring Ranking Toyan and Shine Eye Boy and then had a big hit with Informer. Mr Vegas, in a nod to her experience in the dancehall, called her name in one of his recent diss songs, which she liked. Lady Anne also noted that lyrical feuds in the dancehall go way back to the days of singers Derrick Morgan and Prince Buster.

"From me a come up inna dancehall dem tell we bout dem two deh. So war in nothing new," she said.

It's been close to three weeks since Bounty Killer and Mr Vegas have re-energised their decades-long feud by trading diss tracks and insulting each other on social media. Bounty Killer's Drag Queen (Bup Bup Bup), a response to Mr Vegas' Run Up, has left a dent. While fans seem to be loving it, Beenie Man has stated publicly in a February 10 Podcast that "it nuh mek nuh sense" and asked "Vegas a 40-odd, Bounty Killer a 50, enuh, weh unuh a guh wid that?"

Lady Ann quickly dismissed this, saying, "Age is just a number".

"They are still in their prime ... and even so, old people nuh fight? It's fun to see these 'dinosaurs' as they call them go at each other like this. For years Bounty was pushing the button, and now everybody a run in and a call out Vegas ... dem must split justice," she said.
