D’Angel focused on self-love - Dancehall diva celebrates 45th birthday

Dancehall star and philanthropist Michelle Downer, known more popularly as D'Angel, says that she is open to marriage as she takes on her 40s, but family plus working on her music and charity all take precedence.

She spent last Saturday, April 1, her birthday like a queen, she told THE STAR, as family and close friends gathered for a private dinner party to celebrate the 'life in her years', rather than 'the years in her life'. Pamputtae, Tatik, Raine Seville and Shelly-Ann Curran were among the guests.

"Give God thanks for another year of life. My birthday party was amazing; it was an evening well spent with fun and laughter. You could feel the love in the atmosphere. To top it off my son Marco-Dean Davis, he comes first before any other... he and I cut the cake after he openly shared how he feels about me. This was the best heartfelt moments of the evening [so] overall I enjoyed myself immensely, it couldn't have been better. I felt loved," D'Angel shared.

Speaking about love and her love life, the Exposed artiste-songwriter said she has always preferred to keep it private but said that she has not marked marriage off her list.

"Love is a beautiful thing, but most importantly love yourself more. That will save anyone from making the wrong choices in relationships. Yes, I could marry again, yuh nuh see me a wife material and my next husband is waiting in the wings?" she said. "I'm ageing like fine wine and ageing in reverse. Every year that has been one of the biggest compliments I receive. I shared one secret to my youthful glow already, loving myself and loving life. It's also about being happy, drinking a lot of water, and staying clear of the 'badmind' mentality."

D'Angel said that though still underrated, she is happy with her career and takes joy in her accomplishments thus far. She recently received a humanitarian award presented by Irie FM. Dancehall deejay Khago also hailed D'Angel as a top female performer, and stated publicly that she was 'not an easy act to follow' because of the quality of her presentation on stage. Next month she heads to Atlanta for Carnival where she will be on the road in costume with Entice Mas Band. She has already secured several summer dates and is working on videos for her singles Pick The Man and Trash.

"Winning the humanitarian award is a rewarding feeling which goes to show that hard work and dedication really do pay off. I'm still not getting the support I would love for my foundation, but I'm still pushing and reaching out to sponsors that would possible want to collaborate for the cause. I'm back again, trying to navigate to get bun and cheese for this Easter because they are looking forward [to it]. My target is 600. I fed over 600 families in December and I can do it again. With God in my vessel nothing is impossible," she shared.

"Age is but a number. My journey continues and I'll never water down my performance. I'm always excited for my career, for myself and what I have for my fans because the end result is always rewarding," D'Angel said.
