Gold Mynd serves up Love & Life - Former schoolboy football star looks to be face of reggae in Okanagan, Canada

"It's one of those albums for the ages," said a confident Logan Gayle about his 11-track studio effort that was released April 1 on all music downloading platforms.

The singjay, who uses the stage name Gold Mynd, believes strongly that the album, Love & Life, will bridge the gap between contemporary and trap music lovers.

He told THE STAR in a recent interview that a lot of hard work and sacrifice were invested into the project, which took him around three years to complete.

"They say through every desperate situation comes great innovation and that is the story behind Love & Life," remarked the up-and-coming recording artiste.

The album was jointly produced by his Gold Mynd Music label and Launch Code Productions. It has already been gaining traction, particularly in North America, where the Temple Hall, St Andrew-born lyricist currently resides.

"I am normally a dancehall artiste that does a little bit of hip-hop, but this project embraces the full reggae genre. It is the more mature version of Gold Mynd, a sound that fans will never hear before," he said.

A former schoolboy football star, Gold Mynd's sojourn in music started at his alma mater, Jamaica College (JC) in St Andrew, where he and his friends spent their leisure time building riddims and lyrics.

After he left JC in 2003, Gold Mynd matriculated to The University of the West Indies where he earned a bachelor's degree in information technology. He remained close to music, and in 2016 he released his first official music project, a self-produced mixtape titled My Life.

Gold Mynd migrated to the Okanagan region of Canada in 2017. Since then the singjay has been building up a steady fan base there with his Jamaican-flair but said he now feels ready to expand his musical influence.

"My aim is to be the face of reggae for Okanagan, and by extension making the impact there and all the way back to Jamaica where I can stand amongst the greats," he said.

He believes that his debut album will be a massive success, owing to the reaction it has received from the public since its release.

"The first track ( Blaze) on it has received over 50,000 views on Spotify and that is why I am super confident about the success of this album," he said.

Gold Mynd also said that he believes other tracks such as Revolution and G.O.B. will also have a lasting impact on listeners because of the messages they entail.

"One of the main jobs as a reggae ambassador, which I classify myself as, is to be the voice for the voiceless. There are a lot of issues going on around the world that I just felt the need to address in two songs.

"And that is the main idea of this album, to be versatile. It's an album to go across every age group and genre. I think there is a wide open gap for this kind of music because most of the young people are going towards that trap music, so the album will bridge the gap between the young people and the older audience who have a greater appreciation for this kind of music," he said.
