Bob Marley Primary students for Michael Bolton concert

The iconic ' One Love' by Bob Marley will echo through Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Saturday, May 27, when a group of students from the Bob Marley Primary and Junior High join Ky-Mani Marley in performing it.

This at the Issa Trust Foundation's 'An Evening With Michael Bolton: For the Children Charity Concert'. The St Ann-based school, which was originally named Stepney Primary and Junior High, is the alma mater of the reggae legend and was renamed in his honour a decade ago. One Love, which is one of Bob Marley's biggest songs, is also the name of the Paramount Pictures movie about Marley which recently completed filming in Jamaica.

Paul Issa and Diane Pollard of the Issa Trust Foundation, along with marketer Sean 'Contractor' Edwards, toured the school earlier this week and met with the stakeholders to seal up the plans. Issa shared that the idea to include the children came from the foundation's president, Pollard. The proceeds from the concert will go towards building a health centre in St Ann. The foundation is aiming to raise US$400,000 towards construction of the Mary Issa Health Centre, a paediatric and adolescent care facility.

"Our president thought it would be a nice idea as we are celebrating St Ann ... So we went to Nine Mile [where Marley was born] and met with the principal and the guidance counsellor and asked if they would consider to send 10 of their best singers to come and do a song with Ky-Mani on stage at the concert," Issa told THE WEEKEND STAR.

He added, "They were excited and happy that the kids will be doing this excursion. I think it's an exciting thing for the kids to actually be on stage in front of a big audience. The principal feels the same way and we are working to make it happen."

Principal of the school, Rose Gordon, said that it was a great thing for the students to get this type of exposure.

"The fact that they will be performing with Ky-Mani Marley is exciting for them and their parents will also feel good that the children are performing for a great cause," Gordon stated. Issa noted that the Marley family is very active in education and are big supporters of the school.

An Evening With Michael Bolton: For the Children Charity Concert was officially launched last Tuesday. In a video message, Bolton, the American singer and songwriter and two-time Grammy Award winner, said, "I am so thrilled to be performing for you in Jamaica. It is going to be a wonderful evening singing my songs for you, live under stars. I can't wait."

Reggae singer Tarrus Riley will also perform at the event. Gates will open at 5:45 p.m. and showtime is 8 p.m.
