‘A sense of relief’ - D’Angel happy to make up with Spice

'Stronger' artiste D'Angel is feeling relieved that the spat with Spice, which had resulted in them not speaking to each other for four years, has been resolved and they are friends again.

The red carpet at last Sunday's IRAWMA awards was the space which hosted this grand reunion of dancehall divas.

"Regarding how it makes my soul feel, it's a sense of relief. It makes my heart smile because it's meaningful and it makes sense. As two dancehall icons in the music space, and for us to show that solidarity and togetherness is just setting an example that others can do it. Unity is strength, and together we are stronger," D'Angel told THE STAR.

Chronicling the few moments which changed the course of their history, D'Angel shared that everything happened naturally.

"In terms of us really talking, it was just a natural vibe at the IRAWMA awards. I am the host, she comes on the red carpet and everything is just a natural vibe ... a natural energy. I interviewed her as the host and everything was just seamless and effortless ... the vibe, the energy was just so pure. It was a natural flow."

A video of the red carpet reunion shows them laughing as they discussed who blocked who first, with each jokingly pointing the blame finger at the other.

It was actually in January 2019 that fans were alerted that things between Spice and D'Angel, who had a new collaboration, No Worries, could become worrisome. During an Instagram Live, Spice used the word 'hypocrite' to describe D'Angel, and the First Lady of Dancehall responded by sharing her side of the story as it related to the collaboration, and also stated that one of Spice's dancers had disrespected her on social media. The back and forth continued for a while, until they unfollowed each other on social media.

"To be honest, I don't consider the little bickering we had on social media a feud. It just came off as that in the media and in the press. In my heart of hearts, I never had anything against Spice...nothing at all," D'Angel said.

As if to seal the make-up, D'Angel and Spice performed No Worries together live at the IRAWMA awards for the very first time.

Asked if she had ever envisioned this, D'Angel was quick to say, "Yes."

"I always say that anywhere I am performing and she is there, I am going to call her. I expected the outpouring of love because I love that song. So when they see the two artistes who really do that song come back together and perform it for the first time, it's just a blessing. I feel good."

Her message for artistes, in particular, who are feuding is: "It's not healthy for you, it's not healthy for the music."
