While growing up in the community of Waterhouse in Kingston, Beenie Man had fond memories of his mother, Lilieth Sewell.

"One of the fondest memories that I have of her was when I bought a house and told her that we are moving out of Waterhouse. The reaction on her face was unforgettable. We had a lot of fun in those days. I remember the first time when she found out that I was a deejay, I expected her to curse me, but because she was a Christian, she encouraged me to be the best at what I wanted to do," Beenie Man said.

Sewell passed away in September 2020. In saluting her memories, Beenie Man, whose given name is Moses Davis, has released a song in time for Mother's Day.

The song, Goodbye, also features Viia Boss and Hirawkey, whose mothers have also passed away.

"I decided to do a song about my mom at this time because it will be my third Mother's Day without her, and since she died, I didn't have the strength or the energy to do a song about her until now," the dancehall superstar said.

"This time me get the strength and the energy because I'm with some people that lost their mothers, too. They were willing to do the song with me, and I gladly appreciated it," added Beenie Man.

Goodbye is a co-production between Beenie Man and his brother, Rohan 'Blue' Smith, for MD Entertainment.

"I miss my mother. I loved her then, and I still love her now. My mom was my best friend. We spoke about everything that happened. Sometimes me feel like me want a laugh, me call me madda. That's how close we were," Beenie Man said.

He remembers the best advice that his mother gave him.

"She told me never to give up. Don't follow anyone, always be a leader. Work hard in the studio, and work harder on the stage," Beenie Man said.
