No Bar event to help bring peace to west Kingston
A child of the inner city, Ricardo 'Bossa B' Ellis has seen a lot of violence in his home town of Denham Town, west Kingston.
He is determined to show that it's not all negatives there through No Bar, an event which is held at Denham Town Park. With the latest instalment scheduled for August 7, which will be celebrated as Independence Day, Ellis said No Bar has grown leaps and bounds since it was first held in 2017.
"The first staging, we pull about 500 patrons, and now it's grown past that. No Bar is very important to Denham Town because it makes a lot of people from other communities come here, and it inspires more youth to keep a party, and that help keeps the community violence-free," he said.
Patrons pay a small entry fee to No Bar, but are allowed to enter the venue with their own drinks, hence its name.
Featured acts are budding artistes and sound systems, mainly from west Kingston. At the next No Bar, sound system selectors Sting Dawg, Shukkle Bus, DJ Mac and Baba, and Fire Bigz will be on show.
