After 40 years in the music business, dancehall artiste Lucan I has finally released his debut album.

The 10-track album, titled Free Jah People, which was produced by Alphonso Henclewood, was released on the Montego Records imprint on August 23.

"There's no time like Jah time, and this is the time that Jah chose for me to release an album. I give thanks and praise to Jah for this wonderful achievement in my career. I have a lot more songs to record, so more albums will come," said the artiste.

Free Jah People features songs such as the title track, as well as Jah Love We So, and Turn The Table.

"This album has some powerful songs that will resonate with reggae music lovers all over the world. It's 100 per cent authentic reggae music and I am confident that over time, it will become a classic," said Lucan I. The veteran singjay also offered a word of advice to aspiring entertainers.

"The music business requires hard work and dedication; remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. It took me a long time before I scored my first hit single, but after that I never looked back."

Lucan I, whose given name is Dave Smith, was born and raised in Kingston. He launched his recording career with a song titled Nuh Easy At All, which was produced by Sony Ochial and Trevor Lyn and released on the Tachyon Label in 1990.

His breakthrough single was Crazy Look, which was done with Capleton and Moses I.
