Last Disciple links with Jamaican talent for new single
A regular visitor to Jamaica since 2008, American deejay-rapper Last Disciple has recorded a number of songs with reggae artistes and musicians.
On Walking on The Moon, he teams with singer-drummer Kush McAnuff. Recorded at McAnuff's home studio in Manchester, Walking on The Moon blends Last Disciple's influences, which include reggae and hip hop. That is deliberate as he wants to reach a broad audience.
"The market for this song is the world market. The world music genre fits the vibe of the song well as the feeling can cross borders, [and] be felt by anyone from any culture due to the lyrics and production of the song," he stated. "This song has elements of hip hop and reggae, US and Jamaica, where we're from. When we tour in the future, we know the crowds will enjoy and appreciate the song and its meaning."
Walking on The Moon is the follow-up to the 'weed anthem' Smoking Kush, which is Last Disciple's collaboration with veteran roots singer Linval Thompson and dub poet Meeka Nyota.
Last Disciple is from Greenville, South Carolina, where the sound of choice is country music. He favoured the rebel tones of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Thompson, who is a respected singer/producer.
Babylon Fall and Rise Up are Last Disciple's albums. The latter features McAnuff on drums, keyboardist Franklin 'Bubbler' Waul, and guitarist Winston 'Bo Pee' Bowen.
