The skeletal remains of a body suspected to be that dancehall artiste 'Meddik' was found in a canefield in Wallen, St Catherine, on Valentine's Day.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey said the remains will be processed and compared with DNA samples to determine the true identity.
Meddik, whose given name is Stephanie Williams, went missing around August 24, last year. The police report that 29 year-old Williams of Mayfair, Red Hills Road in St Andrew, has been missing since Thursday, August 24. She was last seen wearing a black blouse, black tights and a pair of black shoes.
She has not been seen since. A missing person report was made to the Constant Spring police by her mother. As a result of the report, the police commenced a missing person and possible murder investigation.
"Several lines of inquiry were made, several persons interviewed and statements were recorded. It is also to be noted that several case conferences were held and significant support was given by the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Headquarters in Kingston," Bailey said in a statement last night.
Last October, Bailey said that "we believe that certain instructions were issued by a convict within a penal institution" to harm the 29-year-old entertainer.
