Mugs’ EP debuts at No. #3 on iTunes
Kallin App, the debut EP by dancehall newcomer Mugs, debuted at No. #3 on the US iTunes Reggae chart last Friday.
The project also peaked at No. #161 on the all-genre iTunes Top 200 albums chart. Originally from Bog Walk in St Catherine, Mugs worked with a list of seasoned producers with the aim of making his project a masterpiece.
"The name for my debut EP Kallin App was selected to show homage to my debut single Kalling which is the song that pulled in the majority of my current fans and supporters and created a lot of waves for me in dancehall. Putting this body of work together wasn't easy, but with the help of Countree Hype and his team along with members of my team and work filled with sleepless nights, we were able to select and fine-tune a list of songs to complete this project," said Mugs.
Billboard-charting and platinum-selling artiste Capella Grey is featured on the track Like This. Mugs said it was a pleasure to work with the New York-based artiste.
"Capella's experience and his knowledge of music made it easy and interesting to work with him and learn from him at the same time. Like This was created under a high-energy vibe in the studio. And due to the fact that the song wasn't pre-written before the studio session, it was fascinating to see how well my team worked together with Capella's team to make sure the song was properly put together. I look forward to working with him again in the future," Mugs disclosed.
The deejay said his passion for music developed during his high school years.
"I only used to make music for fun and in my spare time. I started taking music more and more seriously and started performing my songs in front of crowds of people and the feedback was mostly positive; so I decided to take more pride and interest in music. I have been doing music non-stop ever since trying to find the right sound and cadence," he said.
He also shared that the lesson learnt along the journey is that with time and belief, hard work will pay off, and that patience is the key to survival.
"The journey wasn't easy at all and there were quite a lot of obstacles in the way but I was dedicated to being a face among the greats and a name mentioned among legends. Even with the assistance of my team, this journey has been difficult but with all the sacrifices I have made, I have no choice but to make music my main priority and make it work," Mugs said.
