International dancehall superstar Sean Paul will be presented with an honorary doctorate at this year's graduation at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).

UTech announced on Thursday that it will confer Grammy Award-winner, Sean Paul Henriques, with the Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa (Hon. DLitt), in recognition of his phenomenal achievements in music and for his contribution to nation building.

The ceremony will be held on Friday, November 15.

Sean Paul was a former student of the university, pursuing a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. However, he decided to pursue music before completing his studies. This decision led him to become one of the most awarded musicians from Jamaica, with accolades ranging from a Grammy, Soul Train Award to a BET award.

"His album successes and live performances have brought him fame, making him the first Jamaican artist to perform in Kazakhstan and Madagascar, as well as in over 100 other countries," UTech said.

In 2019, the 51 year old was awarded the Order of Distinction for his contribution to the global popularity and promotion of reggae music.
