Ijahmar stirs controversy with ‘Virgin Mary’

Dancehall star Ijahmar said he is surprised by the reaction to his ' Virgin Mary' single, which was released via online platforms last week.

"Mi don't see what all the excitement is about. The ' Virgin Mary' song is just metaphors. What I realise is, people just have a big misunderstanding of what sex is. I don't believe the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a virgin all her life. She couldn't be so holy, so pure, so immaculate...memba say even the New Testament describe the 'brothers' of Jesus," Ijahmar said.

"I didn't mean to offend any Catholics, but remember say Teacha (Vybz Kartel) say the girl love is like Jesus, and mi come say Virgin Mary; so ah just religious metaphors, same ting. My song is just a representation of the ideal woman every man wants, the immaculate object of affection," he added.

Ijahmar said that he plans to shoot a video for the single, and recently released a video for his previous single, ' Shooting Stars'. Other standout songs include ' Dreams' and ' Thousand Reasons'. Ijahmar has been signed to New York-based record label One Hundred Degrees Records since 2018.
