Chinaman Records building its catalogue
With less than a year in operation, Chinaman Records recently rolled out its debut project, the Stock Chips rhythm, a co-production with Streets Blocks Records.
The project is led by the single Frito Lays, recorded by central Jamaica's Raw Cashh. Ronaldo Brown is at the helm of Chinaman Records, and said this is his fifth time working on a track featuring Raw Cashh.
"I mean, it's a pleasure working with Raw Cashh. He was the one who believed in me and gave me the first big hit, 'Charge Raise'. That was my first official song released, and it has gone over a million views on YouTube. It has been more like family working with Raw Cashh because, outside of music, he is like a brother to me in the music business," said Brown. The Stock Chips rhythm also features songs by up-and-coming acts Bito, Rushawn, Grimy Don and Abblo. Tommy Lee Sparta is also featured on the project. Brown is also gearing up to release a separate project featuring dancehall artiste Jahshii and a collaboration between Tommy Lee Sparta and Skeng.
Chinaman Records previously collaborated with Raw Cashh on the song 'Fawkliff', a co-production with TroubleMekka Music, which has racked up more than 731,000 views on YouTube since its release last October. 'Extradite', a co-production with Brainfreeze Records, released last September, has over 453,000 views, while 'Da Life Ya', released last November, has over 465,000 views.
Brown, who was a striker on the Jamaica College Manning Cup team, earned an associate degree from Northeast Texas Community College in the US. He also has a bachelor's degree in sociology. Brown, who shared that he got some valuable advice and guidance from industry players, including DJ Mac and Brainfreeze Records, explained what he brings to the table as a producer.
"I bring a lot to the table, especially by giving young artistes the opportunity to be highlighted. There are producers out there who don't believe in real talent, and it's not easy getting the opportunity to showcase talent. That is my main focus," said Brown.
Brown added, "I want to give artistes exposure globally, so that others can see their talent. So I'm willing to make the sacrifice for any talented young artiste to work with and to put on my platform. I'm here to invest in their careers, get their videos done, and to promote their songs to the highest level."
