Trapp Gad upbeat as latest single takes flight
Although he has been doing music professionally for the past seven years, dancehall and trap artiste Trapp Gad says the success that his latest single ' One Trap God' has caught him by surprise.
One Trap God, produced by Dun Yuh Money Entertainment/Atchya Entertainment/Mobetta Music, was released on May 16. The official video for the song has racked up more than 192,000 views on YouTube without any form of promotion.
"I'm kinda surprised at the numbers that the song has been moving, because I haven't been in the dancehall space for a while. So I was more than confident that it would do high numbers, but just didn't expect it to be that soon," Trapp Gad said. He said the feedback in the streets is overwhelming.
"The streets have been reacting great, compared to our initial expectations, and we have been getting exceptional support from the DJs at the popular street dances," said Trapp Gad, adding that the lyrics to the song were self-inspired. "I wanted to make it known that there's only one trap god and I consider the song a landmark for myself as my stage name is quite similar to the song's title."
Trapp Gad admitted that had he been more consistent in putting out music, his journey would have had more of an impact.
"I would say there hasn't been much of a journey as of yet, but the support was always there. Not being consistent was my only downfall that I've now decided to make a priority," he said.
Trapp Gad is originally from Spicy Hill district in Duncans, Trelawny. He discovered that he was musically inclined when he was about eight years old.
"When I realised that, I always remixed other dancehall artistes' songs with similar rhymes, and by adding some lines that would make more sense to my understanding. Music is one of the few things that keeps my mind at peace and helps me to relax," Trapp Gad disclosed.
