Digicel Foundation donates science labs
Over the next three years, Digicel Foundation will continue to donate fully equipped Mobile Science Labs to 50 secondary schools around the island at a cost of US$1
million.
The mobile labs, which are distributed by Industrial Technical Supplies, have been introduced to the island by Digicel Foundation to encourage the study of science by secondary school students at schools where there are no science labs or limited space at their institutions to accommodate such.
The programme is in keeping with the foundation's focus on creating more opportunities for practical teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects at the secondary level.
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Clinton Global Initiative.
Each mobile lab comes fully equipped with recommended laboratory equipment and chemicals as per the grades 7-9 curriculum, a mobile interactive white board and 10 tablet computers.
The second set of state-of-the-art Mobile Science Labs will be presented to 15 high schools during this academic year. The project was launched in September, 2014 with 17 high schools across the island receiving the science labs on wheels.
