Inmate gets six months for sharp weapon

An inmate was dragged to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to charges after he was found in possession of a weapon.

Charged with introducing contraband in a lock-up is Convvay Campbell.

He pleaded guilty and offered the court an explanation.

The court heard Campbell was found with a sharp metal called a 'jammer'.

He told the court, "Your honour, I found it in the cell and I kept it with me because I wanted to throw it away when I get the chance."

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told Campbell he should have given the weapon to a guard.

She said, "Imagine when a hardworking policeman leaves his wife and children at home, and come to the cell to attend to prisoners, and unuh use it to stab him and kill him, it is a serious offence."

Campbell was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
