Alleged scammers for court in January

WESTERN BUREAU:

Five St James males arrested during an anti-lottery scam raid in June, had their bails extended to January 20, 2016, when they appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act are 26-year-old Andre Richards, from Rose Heights; brothers Arturo Clarke, 19, and Francois Clarke, 22, and their 17-year-old sibling and a 15 year-old boy.

When the matter was mentioned, it was disclosed that the Communication Forensic and Cyber-Crime Unit (CFCU) instruments, in relation to the case against the five defendants, had not yet been assigned.

It was also revealed that a period of three months would be required for the data to be added to the prosecution's case-file.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the matter to be heard again on January 20.

It is alleged that on June 25, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a police team, armed with a search warrant, conducted a raid at premises in Grange Pen where the five were seen.

Two sheets of paper with identification information from overseas, and cell phones belonging to all the men were seized and two of the phones reportedly contained identification information.

The five men were arrested and charged.
