Father pleads not guilty to assaulting son

A man accused of assaulting his son was remanded in custody when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and cruelty to a child is Anthony Francis. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the police, on November 14, Francis left his son at home without the permission of an adult. The accused man reportedly returned home and the son was missing.

Upon the return of the son, the accused reportedly used a water hose to beat him, causing bruises and swelling to his body.

The accused was accosted when he carried his son to seek medical attention for the injuries. He was also reported to the police by the doctor who saw the child.

Francis was subsequently arrested and charged .

He will return to court on February 17.
