Man on forgery charges bail extended

January 28, 2016

A man accused of applying for a tax registration number (TRN) under a false name had his bail extended when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court on Monday.

Patrick Anthony Williams pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery and uttering false documents.

The court heard that Williams visited the Constant Spring tax office and applied for a TRN in the name Patrick Sinclair Williams, although he goes by the name Patrick Anthony Williams.

However, Williams's lawyer explained that it was a simple case of misunderstanding.

She said Williams' mother had named him Patrick Anthony Williams at birth, but Williams' father took him from his mother, but did not get a birth certificate. The father then named him Patrick Sinclair Williams, and that was why he applied for the TRN in that name.

Senior RM Judith Pusey asked the accused to source his school documents, which would prove that he was using the name Patrick Sinclair Williams all along.

He is to present such

documents on February 11, which is his next mention date.
